Paddu: Mini Idli Recipe
Break Fast
oi-Amrisha
Paddu is a common breakfast dish down South in the Karnataka. Also known as Gundpangli, paddu is a small cousin of famous South-Indian dish, idli. If you want to have a light and traditional Karnataka dish for breakfast, you can try the paddu recipe. It is an easy to make recipe and doesn't require much time. Paddu is stuffed with vegetables and can be a filling breakfast. So, lets check out the South-Indian paddu recipe.

Paddu recipe:
Serves: 2-3
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Ingredients
- Dosa batter or Bombay rava- 500 gms
- Cabbage- 1 (chopped)
- Carrot- 2-4 (grated)
- Onion- 2-4
- Garlic- 4-6 pods
- Red chilli powder- 1tsp
- Cumin powder- ½tsp
- Mustard seeds- ½tsp
- Salt- as per taste
- Oil- ½ cup
- Coriander leaves- 2 handful
Procedure
- Heat 2 tbsp oil in a skillet. Add mustard seeds and mix. When the seeds start popping, add the chopped onions and saute on medium flame for 1-2 minutes.
- Peel and mince the garlic pods. Now add them to the pan and cook for a minute.
- Add chopped cabbage, grated carrots and sprinkle salt. Mix well and let it cook on low flame for 2-4 minutes (until the vegetables become soft).
- Sprinkle cumin powder, red chilli powder and coriander leaves. Mix and cook for a minute. After that, put the pan off the flame.
- Now pour the batter into a deep bottomed bowl. Whisk it to make it smooth (add little water if required). Do not make it too soft or else moulding the paddu will become difficult. Thick batter is ideal to make paddu.
- Add the cooked vegetables to the batter and mix well.
- Heat the paddu or idli tawa. Grease all the compartments with the help of a spoon. When the tawa becomes hot, pour the batter into each compartment. Spread little oil on the corners and let it cook. Flip and cook on both the sides. Repeat the process with the remaining batter.
Paddus are ready to eat. Serve it hot with tomato sauce or chutney pudi. You can also make paddu without using vegetables. Just pour the batter on the tawa and cook until they become brown. Cook on both the sides and serve it hot!
