Masala Sambar Vada: Breakfast Recipe
Sambar vada is a staple South Indian dish that is prepared for breakfast. It is either enjoyed with chutney or with sambar. Vadas are crisp and can taste delicious either ways. You can either dip it in hot sambar or just have it crisp with coconut chutney.
If you want to bring a change in the taste of the sambar vada, then you can add masala to it. Masala sambar vada are prepared with aromatic spices like black pepper and also has chopped onion in it. Check out this breakfast recipe.
Masala sambar vada for breakfast:
Serves: 10-15 vadas
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 30 minutes

Ingredients
- Urad dal- 2 cups
- Onions-2 (inely chopped)
- Black pepper- ½ tsp
- Red chilli powder- 1tsp
- Curry leaves- 3-4 (chopped)
- Coriander leaves- 1tbsp (chopped)
- Salt- as per taste
- Oil- 1 cup
Procedure
Soak urad dal in water for 3-4 hours to prepare soft masala vadas.
Now ground it into a fine paste and put it in a strainer. This allows excess water to drain away easily.
In a bowl, mix grounded paste with salt, black pepper, onions, red chilli powder, curry and coriander leaves.
Heat oil in a frying pan.
Make round vadas with your wet hands.. dig a small hole with your finger tip.
When the oil starts steaming, slowly dip the masala vadas in the oil and fry on a medium flame. When both the sides become golden brown and look crisp, strain and keep aside.
Serve these masala vadas hot with coconut chutney.
