Easy Semiya Upma Recipe For Breakfast
Upma is a classic Indian breakfast recipe. It is easy, less time consuming and is loved by almost everyone. Usually upma is prepared with semolina or rava. But today we have a twist for your tongue. We will prepare this upma recipe with semiya or vermicelli.
Semiya upma is prepared in more or less the same way as a regular upma. But it tastes even better than normal rava upma. Just add in the vegetables of your choice to this delicious breakfast recipe and give a tasty start to your day.

Cooking time: 20 minutes
Ingredients
- Semiya (vermicelli)- 2 cups
- Water- 1 ½ cups
- Onion- 1 (chopped)
- Green peas- ½ cup
- Carrot- 1 (chopped)
- Tomato- 1 (chopped)
- Green chillies- 2 (chopped)
- Turmeric powder- ¼ tsp
- Mustard seeds- 1tsp
- Urad dal- 1tsp
- Chana dal- ½ tsp
- Curry leaves- 6-7
- Dry red chilli- 1
- Salt- as per taste
- Oil- 2tbsp
Procedure
1. Heat one tablespoon of oil in a pan and roast the semiya in it till it turns golden brown.
2. Once roasted, transfer the semiya to a plate and keep it aside.
3. Then heat one tablespoon of oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, dry red chilli, urad dal, chana dal curry leaves and saute for a minute.
4. Add the onion and fry for 4-5 minutes on medium flame.
5. Then add the turmeric powder, chopped carrots, green peas, green chillies, and tomato. Fry for 5-6 minutes.
6. Now add the fried semiya, salt and water to the pan. Mix well.
7. Cover and cook for 8-10 minutes on low flame.
8. Once done, remove the cover and wait till the water dries up completely.
9. Once the water dries up, switch off the flame and serve.
Delicious semiya upma is ready to be served. You can enjoy this dish all by itself or with coconut chutney.
