Akki Roti Recipe
Akki roti is one of the famous and authentic Karnataka breakfast recipe. Akki roti meaning 'rice pancake', is prepared using very basic ingredients like onions, chillies and curry leaves which also acts as the main USP to the food. Akki roti has quite become a known food all over South India and is relished in every household for breakfast. Another interesting fact is, this breakfast can also be eaten as an evening snack.
Akki roti, is a staple food for people from Coorg. This is mainly eaten with pandi curry (pork curry) or kayi chutney (coconut chutney). This is a very healthy breakfast, as very less amount of oil is used in the preparation. Those who are into dieting should include akki roti in order to maintain the consistent weight. Akki roti is a very simple recipe and can be relished with coconut chutney.

Serves: 4
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
Rice flour- 2 cups
Peas- 1/2 cup (mashed)
Coconut- 5tbsp (finely chopped)
Large onion- 1 (chopped)
Green chillies- 5 (chopped)
Curry leaves- 4 (chopped)
Coriander leaves- 2 (chopped)
Water - 1 cup
Jeera- 1/2tsp
Salt to taste
Oil- 2tbsp
Procedure:
1. In a bowl add rice flour and all the ingredients into it and mix thoroughly.
2. Add water gradually to form a soft dough. Leave it for few minutes.
3. Grease the plastic sheets with oil and also apply on your fingers. Take small size rice dough and place on the greased plastic sheet. Spread it with your greased fingers into a fairly large circle (like a roti).
5. Pour 1tsp oil on the tawa. Transfer the roti onto the tawa, pour 1 or 2tbsp oil over the roti and cook on medium heat till it turns light brown and crisp.
6. Remove the sheet from the other side and flip the roti. Cook using some more oil if necessary.
7. Repeat the process with the remaining dough.
Your akki roti is ready. You can have it with coconut chutney and a cup of coffee to complete the breakfast.
