Rava Chilli Prawns: Spicy Snacks
Prawns are a healthy seafood. People in coastal regions love to have this seafood. Prawns are rich in proteins, nutrients and low in fats and bad cholesterol. Thus, including this seafood in your daily diet is good for your body and heart! There are many methods to make prawns. You can either steam them, fry them or add them in your dish like fried rice or curry. In coastal regions of south India, rava chilli prawn is a spicy non-vegetarian snack that is served with tea or coffee. If you want to make some special snacks this weekend, here is the rava chilli prawn recipe.
Rava chilli prawns recipe:

Serves: 2-3
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 20-30 minutes (excluding marination time)
Ingredients
- Tiger prawns- 10-15
- Semolina- 1 cup
- Lemon juice- 1tsp
- Green chilli paste- 2tsp
- Ginger garlic paste- 1tsp
- Red chilli powder- 3tsp
- Crushed peppercorns- 1tsp
- Breadcrumbs- 3tbsp
- Salt- as per taste
- Oil- 1 cup (for frying)
For batter
- Maida/all purpose flour- 1 cup
- Rice flour- 2tbsp
- Corn flour- 2tbsp
- Red chilli powder- 2tsp
- Salt- as per taste
Procedure
- Wash the prawns and clean them properly. Boil it for 10 minutes in water.
- In a bowl, add the boiled prawns, peppercorns, ginger garlic paste, green chilli paste, salt, lemon juice and red chilli powder. You can also add the red chilli powder paste if you do not want to use powder. Marinate the prawns in the mix for 2 hours.
- Meanwhile, in a deep bottomed bowl, mix all the batter ingredients and make a smooth and little thick paste.
- After marinating the prawns, heat oil in a frying pan.
- Take the prawn pieces and dip in batter. Then coat with breadcrumbs and semolina. Fry till the prawn turns golden brown and looks crisp.
- Strain in a paper towel.
Rava chilli prawns are ready to eat. Serve it hot with tomato sauce and chilli sauce. You can also have it with tea or coffee.
