Spicy Pepper Mutton Recipe: Bakrid
On the occasion of Bakrid, one of the best meals you can treat yourself to in a Muslim home is mutton dish. On this lovely festival, mutton is one of the most important meats which is cooked in every Muslim house. To embrace the Bakrid festival, here is one of the best recipes for you to try out this afternoon for lunch.
This spicy pepper mutton gravy is made with one of the best Indian spices which is black pepper. Hot and spicy, black pepper is the main ingredient which is used in the pepper mutton gravy dish. To mark the festival of Bakrid, try the black pepper mutton gravy recipe for lunch this afternoon.

Preparation Time: 40 minutes
Ingredients
Mutton - 1 kg (chopped)
Chilly powder - 1tbsp
Garam masala powder - 1tbsp
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Turmeric powder - ½ tbsp
Green chillies - 4 (sliced)
Ginger - 1tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1tbsp
Pepper - 3 tbsp
Coriander powder - 1tbsp
Ginger-garlic paste - ½ tbsp
Oil - 1tbsp
Salt to taste
Method
- Wash the chopped mutton pieces. Soak in a tbsp of turmeric powder and leave it aside.
- After 15 minutes, in a pressure cooker, add in a little oil and wait for it to turn hot.
- When hot, add in the ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, chilly powder, coriander powder, and salt.
- Add in the mutton pieces to the above mixture which is in the pressure cooker. Pressure cook the mutton for about 15 minutes on a low flame.
- Now in another pan, pour a spoon of oil and add mustard seeds to the hot oil, allowing it to splutter.
- To this, add in the ginger, green chillies to the pan and saute the ingredients well till they turn golden brown in colour.
- When the mixture is ready, add in the garam masala and pepper. Stir the ingredients well and then drop in the cooked mutton pieces.
- Saute the cooked mutton pieces with the mixture on a low flame.
- After 10 minutes, switch the flame off.
- Garnish the spicy pepper mutton gravy with coriander leaves, if needed.
