Spicy Mustard Chicken Curry Recipe
Bored of the same old chicken curries? Then it's time to try something unique and delicious. Here is a completely new and unique recipe of spicy mustard chicken curry. This chicken recipe hails from the Bong kitchen where mustard makes every dish burst with some strong and lip-smacking flavours.
You must have heard of a number of Bengali recipes with mustard paste, especially fish recipes. In this recipe, the mustard paste is used extensively. Apart from that, the use of mustard oil makes this recipe an absolutely delightful treat for your taste buds.

So, try out this spicy mustard chicken curry for lunch today and have a delectable meal.

Ingredients
- Chicken- 1kg (cut into medium sized pieces)
For marinade
- Lemon juice- 2tbsp
- Ginger garlic paste- 2tbsp
- Onion paste- 3tbsp
- Yogurt- ½ cup
- Mustard oil- 1tbsp
- Red chilli powder- 1tsp
- White mustard seeds- 4tbsp
- Green chillies- 3-4
- Salt- as per taste
For the gravy
- Mustard oil- 4tbsp
- Sugar- 1tsp
- Onions- 3 (chopped)
- Ginger-garlic paste- 1tbsp
- Turmeric powder- 1tsp
- Red chilli powder- 1tsp
- White mustard paste- 2tbsp
- Salt -as per taste
- Warm water- 3 cups
Procedure
- Grind mustard seeds with green chillies and one tablespoon of water into a thick paste.
- Wash the chicken pieces thoroughly with water and marinate them with two tablespoons of this mustard paste all the ingredients listed under 'for marinade'.
- Refrigerate the chicken for about one hour.
- Heat mustard oil in a pan and add sugar. Allow it to caramelise on medium heat. Keep stirring the sugar until it dissolves and the colour turns brown.
- Now add the chopped onions and fry for 5-6 minutes on a medium flame.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and cook for about 2-3 minutes.
- Then add the marinated chicken pieces and cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring at regular intervals.
- Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, two tablespoons of the white mustard paste, salt and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Now add the warm water and mix well.
- Cover the pan with a lid and cook for about 20 minutes on a medium flame. Stir at regular intervals.
- Once done, open the lid and check the chicken with a fork if it is completely cooked.
- When the chicken is cooked, switch off the flame and serve.
This yummy and spicy mustard chicken curry is a perfect accompaniment with steamed rice.
