Evolving Salwar Kameez Styles In '13
India has two national dresses for women; one is saree and the other is salwar kameez. Needless to say that salwar kameez styles keep evolving over time. A salwar kameez is one of the main outfits that come under Indian fashion. And we all know how versatile Indian fashion is. That is why there is no surprise that there are several different styles to wear a salwar kameez.
Technically, a salwar kameez comprises a kurta and bottom. It also has a dupatta or stole but that is secondary. Now the style of salwar kamees depends on how the top and bottom are designed. For example, if the salwar has a lot of pleats and frills, it is called patiyala salwar. This salwar kameez style was very popular a few years back.
You can also experiment with different kurta styles. For example, Anarkali style suits were hot on the Indian fashion meter in 2012. Other kurta styles are the asymmetrical kurta or sherwani kurta are now coming into fashion.
These are some of the best salwar kameez styles that will never go out of fashion.

Patiyalas
The patiyala is a salwar that have a lots of width at the centre and it is marked by plenty of pleats. It is usually worn with a short kurta and popular in Northern India, especially Punjab.

Long Kurta With Leggings
This is a very contemporary style that many Indian women are trying these days. A long kurta (that goes beyond your knees) is paired with leggings or tight fitting slacks.

Churidar Kurta
A plain churidar is a salwar that fits you perfectly like a slacks. But it has a set of creases or 'churi' near your ankle. This is a simple style where a long kurta is worn with slim fitting bottoms.

Sherwani Style Kurta
The kurta in this style is designed like a man's sherwani with a closes and raised collar. This style of kurta is always worn with churidars.

Anarkali Suit
The basic style of an Anarkali kurta is borrowed from the Mughals. It is usually full-sleeves and tightly fitting around the bust. And from the bust line, it flares out like a gown.

Normal Salwar Kameez
This is the basic model of salwar kameez. There is a standard kurta and pair of salwars or Indian style trousers for women.

Short Kurti With Churidar
The style of wearing short kurtas (above the knees) came into fashion a few years back. In this style, a short kurta is worn with a tight fitting churidar and matching dupatta.

Assymetrical Kurta
This is a new style that is very inspiring. The kurta is short at the front and long at the back. This creates an interesting pattern.

Lucknowi Chikan Salwar Kameez
In Lucknow there is special tradition of wearing salwar kameez. Lucknowi chikan work is done on cotton fabric. This type of salwar kameez is always plain and is worn with bright coloured dupattas.

Kurta With Waistcoat
This is also a Lucknowi fashion trend. A contrasting waistcoat is worn with a light coloured kurta and churidar. You often get to see spectacular embroidery on these outfits.

Floor Length Anarkali Suit
This type of Anarkali suit is slightly different from the original one. The kurta here comes up till floor. You still wear it with a churidar and carry a drape but it looks very similar to a gown.
