Healing Your Shiny New Dermal Piercing With This 3-Step Guide
Just like tattoos, piercings are also a form of self-expression. While some people refrain from getting even their nose pierced, others choose to get their eyebrows studded with stones.
There are at least 3 types of common piercings that you can get by walking into your neighbourhood jewellery shop.
These include, nose piercings, ear piercings and belly piercings. A single-point piercing, however, is something that not many artists can manage to master.

This sort of a piercing is fitted using a needle on sterilised skin; however, the artist will be using a regular gauge needle to create an L-shaped pouch inside the skin to fit a small base plate. Once the plate has been fit successfully, the chosen stud is screwed onto the plate.
The concept of dermal piercings are relatively new in India, but this trend is catching on quickly!
If you are one of the lucky ones who has found an excellent piercing artist, then continue reading.
The following paragraphs will give you an insight on how to heal your exotic piercing, using a simple 3-step guide.

Step 1: Make Yourself Aware Of The Facts
Now that you have decided to sport a dermal piercing, remember to keep your piercing free of heavily chlorinated water. You should also avoid large bodies of water with high quantities of salt and contaminants. Swimming pools, beaches and the outdoors are a complete NO-NO for 45 days.
The right size for the first stud can vary from 1 millimeter to 4 millimeters. This will depend on the region the stud is placed. If you choose to get pierced at a place with more bone than flesh, then you will need a smaller stud. Larger studs can be added later; however, such studs rarely hold for more than a few days. This is because the tissue around the stud is usually not strong enough to hold a stud bigger than 4 millimeters.
Step 2: Don't Be In a Rush To Change The Stud
While the piercing might heal quickly, refrain from changing the stud for 30 days. Choosing a large stud initially might cause the skin to tear in 1-2 days. Larger studs are also more prone to certain accidents. If the piercing gets hit by your own hand or if the stud gets caught in clothes, then this will be a painful experience.
The first time you decide to change the stud, ensure that the original piercing artist completes this task for you. You can ask the artist to help you learn to change future studs, but don't be in a drastic hurry to experiment.

Step 3: Promote Healing Using The Power Of Natural Ingredients
Turmeric powder and oil make a powerful combination. Applying a dot or two of this mixture on to the dermal piercing, twice in a day, should get you on the right path. Gently cleaning the piercing with a Q-tip, during or after you bathe, is a must.
Calendula extract is a potent natural herb. This antiseptic is often used to heal cuts, scrapes, bruises, tattoos and even piercings. If you have chosen calendula as your primary healing aid, then ensure that you dilute the extract by using 1 part water and 1 part calendula extract.
You only need a few drops of calendula, so mix carefully! Keep in mind that calendula should preferably be used alone. As far as possible, antibiotic creams should not be combined with this natural-healing aid.
